Athens

Athens Day 1

We are staying in a magnificent apartment around the corner from the Acropolis, amazing. Our host Maggie has gone to the end of the earth to accommodate us and our every need, she is wonderful.

We had a great nights sleep and after a couple of cappuccino's we headed off for our self guided tour of the Acropolis and Ancient Agora.

We started at the Acropolis, standing high on the hill. Unbelievable to see this site first hand. Magnificent.

Up the steps and in to the Acropolis. There is an abundance of restorations going on, but still wonderful to experience.

Amazing view from the top of the rock. Athens sprawling out below us.

And of course, this Blog would not be complete with a view of the Dionysos Theatre. As I found out today that he is not only the God of Wine, he is also known as the God of inebriation.

Did someone say its time for wine.

OK, we will settle for a Cafe Frappe and a pastry. Sitting and relaxing after the trek up to the Acropolis steps and around the hill.

Down the Cafe & Vendor lined roads to the Ancient Agora. The Agora was the meeting place on Sundays for Vendors to sell and families to buy and mingle about.

Wine anyone?

Time for a bite. Great authentic greek food, good wine and wonderful people. Dinning just outside the Ancient Agora, mingling with the locals.

On our way to Monastiraki Market area. Thousands of vendors with colourful items to peddle.

Back around the loop through Plaka and now its time for a beer. Interesting munchies. Carol is now heading back for snooze and I am off to the New Acropolis Museum.

Amazing Museum. No pictures allow inside, but well worth the visit. A live dig still going on beneath the museum entrance area.

Alright back to the apartment for a glass of vino and to make plans for this evening. More to come soon.

OK, out for a stroll before diner and carol is making new friends. She's only been here for 2 days and they found her. Interpol must have scanned her passport and sent word she was coming to town for a party.

Dinner at a local Wine & Dine at the foot of the Acropolis, Akadia. Great Souvlaki, Tzatziki and of course Wine. It was so good we dove right in and forgot to take a picture.

Watched the local kids kick around the soccer ball and grabbed a pic. They got a kick out of that, no pun intended.

A nice stroll back to the room and a view of the Acropolis at night.

Time for a few more glasses of wine.
