Finally got to Santorini. Flew in from Athens yesterday and arrived at the apartment around 2pm. I have not had much luck getting on to WIFI with my laptop, so the rest of the blog from this time forwards may have to be shot and updated from the iPad.
The weather was over cast and then the sky's opened up and down came the rain. We had made our way to a small cafe that had Beer, Wine and Gyros, so we were just fine.
The weather forecast for the rest of the week is sunny and drunk, with plenty of Greek food.
Woke up this morning to the sun a blazing and the birds chirping. No one is moving very quickly this morning. The plans for the day are to relax and walk around Oia.
This is the view from our terrace this morning.
We will have another go at the internet thing later today. Can you believe that now I am in search of an Ethernet Cable to rectify this situation.
Almost time for a beer...

Santorini Day 2
Well we went out to explore Oia where we are situated on the island of Santorini. There seems to be collection of shops and taverna's all around. We decide to walk to the farthest western facing tip of the island to get an idea of what the crowds would be like for the Sunset Spectacle each evening.
Strolling around in and out of the shops, I finally admit that I may need to purchase a pair of sunglasses. My eye are watering so bad from the glare of the white buildings and marble walk way.
I think it must be time for lunch and maybe an alcoholic beverage. Wine? Not a bad idea.
Making it to the end of the pathway, and the crowds have started to arrive. They say that the sunsets here are the best in the world. Apparently so, 2 Cruise ships and seven bus loads later the walk ways, ledges and side streets were lined up 3 deep. This was about 2 hours before sunset. We decided this would be for another day. You could also take a donkey ride down to the sea and back up, if one so desired.
We opted out of this sunset and head back to the villa. A quick stop along the way for provisions, Wine & Beer and we were back. The pedestrian pathway if a much safe alternative then the road way and much nicer to stroll along.
Back at the Villa enjoying the relaxation and beverages. Now where should we go for dinner?
We ended up at a fantastic restaurant by the name of FLOGA. Great food, wine and hospitality. Then back to our place to catch the twilight light after the sunset.
Tomorrow is another day, see you then.

Day 3 Fira
A few shots with the wide angle lens to get a feel for the villa and surrounding scenery.
We took a small trip to the town of Fira today. The 4 of us jumped in the car and off we went.
Fira is a port town where all the Cruise Ships port. A much busier little town. More tourist shops etc.
Crazy Ass drive along the ridge road. I will take pictures next time we go.
Ok, time to head out for dinner and copious amounts of Vino.
Marko Baklava
Santorini Day 4
Hung out at the Villa and the couple we met in Fira from Australia dropped in for copious amourts of Vino.
Santorini Day 5 (I Think)
Today we headed out for a trip to the south end of the island. Very rocky landscape. We drove toward the beach area and dipped our feet in the sea. Very cold and refreshing.
Drove by a few beach area's, but decided not to stop. Just took in the beautiful view around the island.
This around Akrotiri on the north side of the island in the Caldera over looking Ballos Bay.
These are on the south side looking toward Crete island, near the beach area's. You can see the layers of volcanic rock through time.
In the town of Akrotiri we had a flavourful Chicken Gyros, fries and a beer. Food is great in Greece.
Wandering through the pedestrian pathway, mingling with the locals heading to Edwin's for a 5 star pizza.
Edwin's is a jewel on the island. Family run little cubby hole in the wall. Fantastic hospitality and great pizza and wine. A must if you are here.
Uli, greets you at the door. By they way he loves spaghetti bolognese.
Pizza Greek, say no more.
A round of applause fills the air as the sun sets below the horizon as if to signal to the masses that is the finale for this evening.
OK, lets find a place to grab a Baklava and an espresso then head home.
Another great day in Santorini.

Santorini Day 6 - Another glorious day
Pretty much stayed around the villa today. Enjoying the view again as well as the sun and hot tub. We now have turn the hot tub down and made it a cool tub. Ain't life grand.
We are headed to the best fish restaurant on the island. Dimitri's Fish Tavern.
Just off the pathway you can take a Donkey ride down the steep steps to your restaurant. We actually ate at Floga, where the dark blue sign is.
The gang heading to Dimitri's
The 200 or so steps down the side of the mountain to the sea side table awaiting us.
Let the wine tasting begin, again.
The view as the sun begins to set on another wonderful day on the island.
Us again at our table, and below with our host Joy.
Going, going, gone. I think we may need a taxi back up the side of the rock. Trying to step around dark donkey poop after sunset may prove difficult. Slipping would not be a good idea.
One more day to go, so sad. What a wonderful island. I wonder if we can make a living fishing?
Opa again from Santorini.
